A CHBA Northern BC member and local builder, Jesse Bennett, lost his life on Boxing Day. The family has shared that Jesse succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning while heating a foundation in a new build project. Jesse has been a cherished husband, father, son, brother, and friend and leaves to mourn him, his wife and four children aged between two to 12 years. He is the sole owner of home building company Crimson Construction in Prince George, and he has been an active and engaged member in Northern BC.
Hazards in construction include working in confined spaces and carbon monoxide (CO) gas is the most common cause of occupational gas poisoning leading to death. Please visit the links provided below. Visit your own safety procedures, training policies and safe work assessments, talk to your crews.
No one plans to go to work and not return home, and no parent can anticipate the possibility of continuing to raise a family as a single parent. As much as the construction sector can be competitive, it is uniquely giving and compassionate, standing shoulder to shoulder in support of those in their time of need.
We invite you to please donate to a fund for the Bennett family spearheaded by the Canadian Home Builders’ Association Northern BC and in partnership with the ICBCA and the NRCA. Funds raised will be forwarded to the family accompanied by a letter with the names of all contributors, demonstrating that the construction sector that Jesse thrived in - has their back.
This fund is in addition to the public GoFundMe fundraiser already in full swing initiated in part, by his friend, Chad Erickson. Chad is aware of this initiative and welcomes and appreciates this effort.
The goal is to capture contributions by Friday January 7, 2022. However, in acknowledgement of the recent holidays, the donation link will remain open until January 12 and an extension may be arranged by contacting those named below.
Cheques can be picked up! Otherwise, please donate online at the link provided. Cheques can also be dropped off to the attention of Al Jones, at Rona. Please make cheques out to CHBA Northern BC.
