Overview of the five day training course:


Pre-requisites to take the Energy Advisor Stage 1 Training Course:

  1. Completion of the Pre-Assessment Evaluation. For more information and to receive the pre-assessment form, contact vanessa@chbabc.org
  2. Completion of the Building Science for New Homes course with a passing grade of 80% or higher.
  3. Completion of the Foundation Level Exam issued by Natural Resources Canada.

For exam preparation materials and information on registering for the Foundation Level Exam, please contact vanessa@chbabc.org. Confirmation of a Foundation Level Exam passing grade will be required to register for the Energy Advisor Stage 1 Training Course. This Stage 1 workshop provides training on the use of the HOT2000 software which is used to model new house plans within the EnerGuide for New Houses,
ENERGY STAR, R-2000 and Net Zero certification programs. The course covers the responsibilities of a plan evaluator, who performs HOT2000 energy analysis of house plans, playing a key role in the quality assurance process for labeling EnerGuide, ENERGY STAR and Built Green® homes. Training is also provided on the blower door test equipment and procedures. Course Format: Participants receive the course material on day one and spend five (5) days in classroom instruction which includes a demonstration of the fan test.

PLEASE NOTE: This Course is computer-based. You are required to bring your own laptop.

Examination: A pass mark of 80% is required on the in-class open book exam that is written on the final day of the classroom session. If a mark between 65% and 79% is achieved, a fee is charged to re-write the exam. A candidate is given the opportunity to re-write the examination a maximum of two times before having to retake the entire course. Candidates who score less than 65% on the initial examination are required to retake the course.

Presentation: Heath de la GirodayOccupational Hygiene Officer, Prevention Field Services for WorkSafeBC will discuss the health hazards & remediation practices for the handling of materials at the work site in residential construction including asbestos and silica.

Heath de la Giroday is an Occupational Hygiene Officer with WorkSafeBC and one of the officers assigned to WorkSafeBC’s 2018 Residential Asbestos Inspection Initiative and Occupational Disease Initiatives. Prior to joining WorkSafeBC, Heath was the variously the Risk & Safety Coordinator, Radiation Safety Officer, and Dispensing Chemist and Chemical Safety Officer at UNBC and a local volunteer firefighter. Heath has a BSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and MSc in Biochemistry.
